Three Forks Natural Area

I've mentioned in other posts that the Snoqualmie River has three forks - the North, South and Middle. They converge just north of town center at a place aptly named the Three Forks Natural Area. The 418-acre Area includes over five miles of riverfront and is located between and near large blocks of undeveloped land including Mount Si Natural Resource Conservation Area (8,041 acres), Weyerhaeuser's Snoqualmie Tree Farm (180,000 acres), the Cedar River Watershed (90,000+-acres), and the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest (1.7 million acres). It's about a 15 minute ride from my house, and is a very scenic area.

Mt. Si, standing at nearly 4200 feet, marks the Cascade foothills, and can be easily viewed from the Area.

Across the road are large rural homesteads, farms mostly devoted to raising livestock, such as horses and llamas:

A very nice place to stop the Triumph and take a few pictures:

It's inconceivable to me...almost...those sharp craggy peaks...the millions of acres of prime timber land...unmolested (for the most part)...peppered with homesteads in the lower elevations...and those rustic bucolic scenes....

You live in a great area...

Thanks Chessie! It's been nice to explore these areas with my bike. In the car, I tend just to drive by, but on bike it's great to stop and enjoy.

Dear Lance:

I love pictures like this, and the chance to be able to pull over and take them. Around here, there are a number of picturesque spots, but there are generally situated on blind curves, one lane roads that are heavily trafficked , or places where the shoulder is 18-inches wide and covered with gravel.

Still, I got a big kick out of your pructures, which reminded me of New York State's Adirondacks -- where I rode last weekend.

Fondest regards,
Jack • Reep • Twisted Roads

Thanks Jack - being originally from Poughkeepsie, I love autumn in upper state New York. The colors there we simply do not get here, although our evergreens are beautiful too.

I live in an area similar to yours but down in Oregon. I'm so thankful to be within a short ride of such wonderful open land. I think riding has made me so much more open to appreciating these places.

Do you find yourself venturing farther afield to explore on the Triumph as opposed to the scooter?

That Triumph looks right at home! Glad to see you're getting her acquainted with the neighbourhood.

Irondad, thanks for dropping by, and yes, it is much easier/more comfortable for me to go out farther with the Triumph. My GV250is great for around town, but to get most places around here I have to hit the interstate, and with the America, no problem.

Thanks Canajun, I hope to someday find some great places like the one you found that had the mini CN tower!

I noticed that you stopped in the right place, just past that black backpack which seems to have fallen out of a pick up truck. There must be valuables in there. In order for us to find open roads such as yours, we have to travel about an hour in urban crawl which is very frustrating

Thanks Bob - that backpack is such an attention hound, always wanting to be in the picture!

Beautiful country, makes South Florida even more flat. Didn't know you also had a motorcycle in your stable. Nice Ride!

Haven't blogged in a while and suddenly got the itch. Found your comment on my last post so came to visit. Wow, great stuff. I'm looking forward to spending some time reading and keeping up with your blog Lance. Ride safe.

Thanks Heinz n Frenchie! Yes, I am enjoying my motorcycle, but I also have the Honda Elite, which I still enjoy motoring around town with.

Sarch, thanks for dropping by. I enjoyed your post on the "Dragon" and the good times you enjoyed with family and friends.
