Preston, Washington

With the added power of my Bonneville America, and the favorable summer weather, I continue to commute regularly into my office in Seattle. My daughter is fine with this, as this means she gets the Honda Element for her extremely busy social schedule ever since she received her drivers licence.

It's a 35 mile trip each way, and can take me anywhere from 45 minutes to a little over an hour, depending on my route, and whether I stop for coffee, as in the picture below.

My usual morning route is to go through the Snoqualmie Valley, through North Bend, Snoqualmie, Fall City, Preston, and then onto I-90 for the rest of the trip into downtown Seattle. Preston is an interesting town - it was an old logging town, named after railway official William T. Preston. The Raging River runs through Preston and feeds into the Snoqualmie River at Fall City. As you can see below, there is truth in the name of this river - this was taken during the flood of 2007:

But in summer the river is calm, and meanders through Preston as it makes its way to Fall City. Once I reach Preston, my ride takes me past the community center (at the top of my post) and along a road running parallel to I-90, passing an industrial park, a strip mall with a gas station and some eateries, and some modest rural homes. One of the home sites has a barn that has definitely seen better days:

A very interesting place. Will have to explore more of your area on my next trip.
I tried to phone you tonight, but you must have changed your number, it gave me an instruction something like "you can input your digital message now . . ." I was thinking of take a day or so off work and wanted to know your timetable. I thought you were going to the Palouse soon.

I notice you are able to travel farther afield with your new Triumph. It opens a world of more possibilities. Nice bike

Nice little ride report. Still like that bike? You are making me want one more.

Bob - thanks - I'll e-mail you. I am not sure when I will go east, but we can talk. I was also thinking maybe we could meet up in NW Washington, somewhere between the two of us.

Danny - I really like the Bonnie. The combination of power/handling/looks and, from what I have heard, the reliability of the bikes, is making this a winner for me!

Lance...nice ride report and pictures..so you have a new windshield installed..it makes the bike look bigger...you gonna install saddle bags and crash bars? It could give the bike a total new outlook..
Great stuff man...ride safe..remember you're still a novice and exercise lots of cation

Thanks Jim - it's been real fun with the new mount.

Baron - good advice; it's important to ride within my limits, and with bikes like this one it's easy to get caught up in the excitement. Thanks!
I got as part of the deal both the windshield and bags, but am enjoying the naked look so I haven't installed the bags yet.

Glad to be able to get back on your blog Lance, you have been busy while the bugs were at work lol.

I really like the look of that bike, the engine and chrome looks just like it came off a classic bike, very nice.....The 850cc must be nice for cruising along.

Cheers,

Dave...

Linda (aka anonymous) - thanks for stopping by to see my new bike. I'm having a blast riding her!

Dave - yes, finally figured what was causing the problems - the cat!

Lance, your love for cats never diminishes...lol

Isn't it amazing how hard it is to go "straight home" when you're riding instead of driving?

Lance said...

Baron - yes, the cat was cute, but had to go!

Irondad - I know what you are saying! The commute is longer (and nicer) by bike.

Lance, the more I see that bike, the more I like it. Glad you're enjoying the new ride.

And Irondad is absolutely right about how hard it is to go straight home. Went out for a quick run into town last night (to look at another motorcycle - another story)and ended up 30 miles out of my most direct route, having an ice cream!

Thanks for a great post.
