Let The River Flow

On a recent ride, I decided to take some pictures of the Snoqualmie river, which is near my house. The Snoqualmie River is 45 miles long, and it has three main tributaries - the North, Middle, and South Forks, which drain the west side of the Cascade Mountains near North Bend, and then join in Snoqualmie. I live just uphill from the South Fork.

It's calm right now, but this river floods pretty regularly.

There's something special about rivers - they start small, high in the mountains, and gather steam as they come to the lowlands, joining with other streams and creeks until they make it to the ocean. Kind of a metaphor for life - I like how Roger McGuinn put it in "The Ballad of Easy Rider":

The river flows
It flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes
That's where I want to be
Flow river flow
Let your waters wash down
Take me from this road
To some other town

Wherever you are in this river of life, enjoy the ride!

Well said and I agree. Rivers are really something special.

On a lot of my longer rides that I take into the back woods, I am always looking for a river to follow as my companion. In the wilderness, all things end up by the waters edge. There is always something to savor.

I've seen the Snoqualmie Pass on the Washington DoT webcams.

It looks pretty grim in winter.

Kano and E.T. - I agree, rivers are a great place for solitude and inspiration.

John - Snoqualmie Pass is about 20 minutes from my place, and you are right, it does get pretty grim in the winter. Last year it was closed for about 3 weeks in total as they had to clear avalanches. However, the skiing is pretty good (so I have heard).

Irondad - thanks for the welcome!

After being without power at home for 3 days (and counting) I finally get the chance to catch up on all my blog reading. And lo and behold, 2 posts in a row remind me to slow dow, enjoy the moment, take in my surroundings and live in the now.

I can take a hint. Thanks...
